Attorney Provides Update on Clark County Judges’ Recovery After Indianapolis Shooting
In May 2019, Clark County Judges Andrew Adams and Bradley Jacobs were critically injured in a shooting outside an Indianapolis White Castle. Both judges required hospitalization, and their recovery drew significant concern and support from the local legal community.
Southern Indiana attorney Larry Wilder — a longtime colleague and personal friend of both judges — publicly shared updates on their progress during this difficult time. Speaking about their conditions, Wilder noted that while both men remained in serious condition, they were showing signs of improvement. He described how each judge had been able to talk, and even begin walking again, a promising sign in the early stages of their recovery.
Wilder emphasized the resilience of his colleagues, explaining that Judge Adams was expected to return to Clark County soon to continue his rehabilitation, while Judge Jacobs faced a longer but equally determined recovery journey. He underscored that the focus was not on the details of the incident itself, but rather on the health and healing of the two judges and their families.
Reflecting on conversations he had with Adams and Jacobs, Wilder highlighted their dedication to returning to the bench and serving their community. Temporary judges were appointed to cover their responsibilities during the recovery period, ensuring the continuity of court operations in Clark County.
In addition to professional updates, Wilder spoke about the judges’ families, noting how their loved ones — including their young children — remained a vital source of strength. Both families expressed gratitude for the medical care provided in Indianapolis, crediting it as a key factor in the judges’ gradual improvement.
As Wilder summarized: “My two friends, our two judges were shot. And they fought for their lives and they’re getting better. What’s important now is their recovery.”
